Cadets learn by doing. During the school year, Vanguard cadets take part in parade nights, leadership training, fitness, marksmanship, music, seamanship, citizenship activities, and special events. In warmer months and summer training, cadets can develop sailing and boating skills on the water.
Learn sailing, boating safety, teamwork on the water, and confidence around boats.
Practice boat handling, navigation awareness, ropes, safety procedures, and communication.
Develop discipline, focus, pride, and teamwork through ceremonial training.
Build responsibility, communication, mentoring skills, and confidence as cadets advance.
Train safely in focus, patience, concentration, and controlled technique.
Explore music, rhythm, performance, teamwork, and ceremonial participation.
Learn outside through briefings, teamwork, safety, and activity-based training.
Celebrate effort, progress, leadership, service, and personal growth.
From training at HMCS York to activities on Toronto’s waterfront, cadets experience teamwork, leadership, and adventure in a safe and supervised environment. The program gives youth a meaningful school-year activity and opens the door to free summer training opportunities.
